We all know that the role of a police officer is considered a prestigious position and the force offers you many different opportunities along the way.

There are naturally going to be some qualifying that you will have to prove. Of all the qualifying requirements, you have to also bear in mind that the force office that you choose to apply to may have some variance on the requirements.

Age requirements are relatively simple and straightforward. You must be at least eighteen years old and the age limit for the upper ages is currently non-existent. The commitment to the force is pretty significant and many people recommend waiting a year or two after your eighteenth birthday before joining. This just gives you a little more time to mature and be sure.

If you are getting a little older and you are considering joining the UK police force, you are welcome to apply. There are identical prerequisites for older applicants and the younger applicants. You will be retired by the age of 60 to 65, which is something to consider carefully.

Your financial stability will come into question. You can't have serious debt or bankruptcy on your record within a certain number of years in order to become part of the force. The chances are high that you will have access to rather sensitive and secure information, and logically it makes sense to assume that someone in financial crisis can be compromised faster than someone in a good financial position.

The same idea applies to your criminal record. If you have any history of violent behavior or charges against you dealing in theft you can be sure that you will be rejected. However, people with criminal records that are small infractions and have a reasonable time gap between conviction and application can still be considered for a police position.

Physical issues will also be looked at carefully. Physical fitness and a strong medical history are required for training as well as for job performance. Your health and eyesight will be checked before you are granted a place in the training academy. Physical requirements apply to tattoos as well.

You can be rejected for visible or tattoos that cause offense as easily as you can be rejected for high blood pressure. By presenting yourself in a tight, professional manner is important, and tattoos can mean disrespectful nuances, even if you didn't intend it to be.
